While My Friends Were Playing With GI JOE, I Was Writing Code

I first started in 1980 with an Apple II+ computer and a book on B.A.S.I.C. which means Beginners All-Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. No, I didn't have a girlfriend but I knew how to write my own video games and me and my friends practiced our skills with several living room computers. Yes, big, heavy, green monitors, and all accessories, were lugged to my living room. It is true. I had 'programming parties' at my house.

A few years later, 'modems' became available and we used our 300 baud connection to dial into Bulletin Board Systems. Networking, back then, was only limited to point-to-point contact. You called someone, and accessed their system. Later, we used protocols called Serial Line IP (SLIP), and then went on to Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP). Networking was not like it is today where you can just go 'anywhere' and hop from one site to another! The Internet changed all that! I used to have a list of hundreds of phone numbers and we would call them up.

Egan Gets Formal Training From The Professionals At Microsoft

Now fast forward 10 years more experience. In 1997, I attained my Systems Engineer certification from Microsoft (MCSE) in only 6 months and graduated at the top of my class. My instructor worked at Microsoft, and was 'on tour' teaching in various cities.

You see, back then, there were not any 'brain cram' MCSE schools, or 'fast track' curricula. You had to pass the tests the old-fashioned way of reading the text and studying. Since the content is technical, several passes are necessary. It was very difficult and I am still friends with many of them to this day.
Because of this 'old-school' method of learning, my retention of the material is much, much higher. I could still pass my exams today, and often do, when I re-certify on a platform or attain new certifications in networking excellence.

University Professor: Garry Egan

An expert network engineer, I was invited to teach at Portland State University in 1999-2000. I instructed Internet Protocol and Internet Client and Operating Systems to graduating seniors and Masters candidates. I wrote curriculum, syllabus, labs, and exams. My instruction method was the 'socratic' method of instruction which demanded that any student be ready to speak and argue about the topic discussed. This made for a very alert class.

Even today, some of my previous students stop and thank me for the excellent instruction.

Let me bring my internet expertise in small office networks to your business. 'Small businesses' are businesses with less than 250 employees.

I am the expert of experts.
